MUSIC SYSTEM COMPANDOR Model CP2

Do you get problems in volume variations when playing different CDs ?

CD sound volume variations result because the recording industry has never established any standards for a common volume reference level to be used for all CD recordings. Every CD, and indeed every music tape, is recorded at a different level. Even within one track, the music can vary from loud to soft.

Also, CDs have a dynamic range between softest and loudest sounds in excess of 90 dB.

This means that a comfortable listening level to hear violin passages in classical music will be completely too loud for Rock music.

The problems with this wide CD dynamic range are especially severe in commercial environments with high ambient noise levels, such as in a restaurant, shop or a public house. In such environments, the room noise level tends to mask the soft passages of the music giving a false impression that the volume is too low when in fact it is at a prime level for the louder passages of the music

The Portset Compandor solves these problems by ensuring optimum sound volume.

Connected between the pre-amp and the main amplifier, the Portset Compandor is a high quality, easy to use device ensuring constant optimum sound volume, by providing two fixed levels of dynamic range. The Portset Compandor is packaged into a small housing of size 15.5cm x 9.2cm x 3.5cm. It has stereo input and output sockets, and comes complete with a wall socket power supply. It provides two fixed levels of dynamic range: normal dynamic (by-pass) mode, and 2:1 dynamic compression mode.
The COMPANDOR can be used in conjunction with any music or CD source. It should therefore be an essential item of any audio amplification system applied to the following situations :-

RESTAURANTSMUSIC STORESSHOPPING MALLSHEALTH CLUBS

In fact, in any commercial setting where background music is a feature of the ambience

In these situations, CD changers and Tape players are pre-dominantly used. But a problem of volume control arises because every CD or tape is recorded at a different level, even within one track, the music can vary from loud to soft.

Solution ? - Simple, use the Portset Compandor as a small, straightforward and low cost answer to ensure an even sound volume. Easy to install between the CD or tape player deck and the amplifier it will ensure a constant level of volume perception for you and your customers.

The Portset Compandor has two modes of use. The Direct (off) mode allows the normal full dynamic range and provides a straight through audio connection. Compandor mode (on) provides a stabilisation ratio of 2:1, thereby increasing the output by twice the input up to the 0dB level at which leveling occurs as shown below.
